OpenOffice Spellchecker Problems

I just installed Ubuntu 6.06 and right after install I used OpenOffice and the spellchecker was working fine. After I installed the default updates that Ubuntu found automatically, the spellchecker no longer functions. Does anyone know if there is a bad package around that somehow causes the spellchecker to not function? How should I go about getting it to work again? Is anyone else having a similar problem? Any information relating to any of these questions would be gratiously recieved.

Thank you,
e_guillaume

I had this problem with Gentoo Linux recently after an upgrade.

If you can, use the wizard from File -> Wizards -> Install new dictionaries

In my case, that Wizard was not installed, so clicking on it's menu item did nothing. If that is the case for you, you can run the wizard by doing the following:
1) Download http://ftp.services.openoffice.org/p...ooo/DicOOo.sxw
2) Run the document with Macro's Enabled (if you run it as root you can install dict's for the whole system, otherwise it will put them in for your user).
3) Click on your language link shown in the document.
4) A wizard will appear. For each step, click on "Retrieve List" from the top, select your language, and then click next (you do this about three times for spelling, thesaurus, and hyphenation).
5) It will download the requested files and install them.

Let me know if you have any problems.

That worked fine. I actually had the wizard already, which made it much easier. Thank you.
