All,
I'm having some problems with my network card names. I have noticed that once i got my laptop back from dell, my eth0 has become eth2 and eth1 has remained the same. Here is output from dmesg:
dmesg | grep "eth0"
[17179584.788000] eth0: Broadcom 4400 10/100BaseT Ethernet 00:14:22:f2:5e:e4
dmesg | grep "eth1"
[17179680.844000] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth1: link is not ready
[17179682.884000] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth1: link is not ready
[17179684.372000] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth1: link becomes ready
[17179694.912000] eth1: no IPv6 routers present
dmesg | grep "eth2"
[17180427.744000] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth2: link is not ready
[17180430.744000] b44: eth2: Link is up at 100 Mbps, full duplex.
[17180430.744000] b44: eth2: Flow control is on for TX and on for RX.
[17180430.744000] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth2: link becomes ready
[17180440.828000] eth2: no IPv6 routers present
[17180994.744000] b44: eth2: Link is down.
[17180998.744000] b44: eth2: Link is up at 100 Mbps, full duplex.
[17180998.744000] b44: eth2: Flow control is on for TX and on for RX.
Furthermore, when i click on the network card configuration tool, i get some kind of sissy flags. I've been working on this problem for 4 hours now, and no solutions. I have tried to modify my /etc/network/interfaces file, and have made it this:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
auto eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp
auto ath0
iface ath0 inet dhcp
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
iface eth2 inet dhcp
i have then created a file called 010_netinterfaces.rules and added the following information to it:
KERNEL="eth2", SYSFS{address}=="00:14:22:F2:5E:E4", NAME="eth0"
;KERNEL="eth1", SYSFS{address}=="00:18
E:C1:F9:34", NAME="eth1"
(being that eth1 is already set as it normally should be, eth1. I have uncommented the second line out.) To get a better idea of my ifconfig information, here is the information:
ifconfig

This is really annoying me as everything i have had come up with, has been foiled. I feel like beating this computer into submission! I have also tried my System > Administration > Device Manager and i have found this: BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX in the advanced Tab, for net.interface it says eth2, when i attempt to change it, it allows me but by the time i press enter; it's back at eth2. WTF!? Please anyone who can help i would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Crash.
