Kmail: set SMTP server per "receiving account"

Hello,

I just started to use Kmail on my laptop (because I want to profit from the integration with all other KDE applications).

Coming from thunderbird though, I'm finding myself in a tight spot. There is a feature that I could really use which is setting a default SMTP server per receiving account. So if for instance I have 2 IMAPS accounts (IMAP1 and IMAP2), I want to be able to use server SMTP1 for all mails related to IMAP1 (and the identity attached to this receiving account) and SMTP2 for everything that refers to IMAP2.

That doesn't seem possible though in KMail. There is a little sticky checkbox near the smtp server to use (in Composer) but that just seems to override the default SMTP server settings. Has anyone any ideas on this matter ?

Thanks in advance for your help...

I have been using kmail more and more and I realized that I had got my problem a bit wrong.

In thunderbird, each accounts comes with its "identity". When I write a mail, I choose from which email address it should originate from (that is, the from address). By doing so the configured SMTP server is used (each account can be attached to a specific smtp server). So when I'm viewing a mail in account ONE and I hit reply, I know that there won't be any mess.

On Kmail though, the from field is filled with the default identity's data. This forces me to create an identity for each account I have (that seems really strange, I must be missing something, hopefully you can point it out). Then when composing, I not only need to choose the identity but also the SMTP server that must be used.

Does anyone have any info on that matter ? I've used several mail clients in the past and never had to deal with such an issue...

Thanks in advance for your comments,
acp
