|Newly aquired hp 290 g3 sff desktop computer (windows 11)
i am trying to dual boot a debian 12 distribution which fails at the boot loader stage with the message, incorrect installation media detected
i have tried with secure boot on and off to no avail
at one point i got the message cannot find win32 loader.ini
i copied this file to the systen folder, that's where the incorrect installation media occured
there has never been a linux distro on this machine
i have tried both ubuntu and debian installation disks same result
beginning to think there may be a hardware problem.
please can anyone help
thank you
Did you do an online search for that error? Do you know what win32loader.ini is/does? The link below gives some info on it, bottom of the page under UPDATE. Would it not be simpler to use a standard method, writing the iso to a usb drive with software designed for that purpose like Ventoy, Rusus, etc? Does the computer not boot from a usb? That would be surprising if you have windows 11 on it.
It's not clear to me from your description whether the failure is to boot the installed system post-installation, or the installation media is failing to boot. If the former, did you remove the installation media before trying to boot?

It could also be that the OP didn't allow the grub boot loader to correctly detect other operating systems i.e. Windows. To remedy this issue the OP could try booting into the Linux install either normally or via the use of the Debian installation media and selecting advanced options then selecting boot into recovery mode.
