Hi, are you talking about the "night shift" mode that reduces blue light?

In Fedora Linux, Gnome desktop (my distribution of personal choice):

Settings, Displays, Night Light, On

In other distros, the instructions are probably similar. What is your distro of choice?

Debian for now. What software is most similar to that effect on Mac? I didn't see anything similar.

If you are using a recent version of the Gnome desktop environment, then you can follow my instructions from above:

Settings, Displays, Night Mode, On

If you are not using a recent version of the Gnome desktop environment, then you might try f.lux or redshift. I haven't personally tried either of these apps, and can't vouch for them, but it looks like they might do what you are looking for.

Yes.

In Fedora I can find them using:

Code:
sudo dnf search backgrounds-animated
I'm sorry, but I don't know the instructions to do this in Debian.
