How to regester new MIME types with KDE

I'd like to set the file association on flash videos (both MIME and .flc) to VLC, the problem is that in kcontrol's file assocation there is no entry for flash. I know that the system recognises the flash MIME becase the output of "file flash movie" is "Macromedia Flash Video"

So how do I manually add flash to the File Associations lis.

p.s. whats x-flic and will I have any problems if I remove .flc from its list of extensions? it says Autodesk's FLIC File whatever that is.

Kde control center - kde components - file associations. Add it to the video group, then set the icon, file extension (*.swf), description, and application to use to play the file.

Well that works if the extension is set to swf (thanks for correcting me on that BTW), but not if it has the wrong extension, how do I fix that?
