How to make typical UNIX copy / paste work in Fedora 13 GUI ?

Hello,

I recently replaced Windows Vista in my Dell Inspiron laptop with Fedora 13 desktop.

Everything now works fine except the typical UNIX copy and paste function (simple select and right click)

To copy, I now have to click Edit - Copy, or CTRL+Shift+C, and to paste, click Edit - Paste or CTRL+Shift+V. It's annoying.

I will give this laptop to my kids 7-11, so I have to make this work, otherwise they will get frustrated even more than with the Vista.

It must be sth trivial I'm missing. Can anyone please share some insight over what I should check?

Any tip would be appreciated, and Merry Christmas!

Typical primary selection paste is a middle click, not a right click. Or Shift+Insert. Is this not working?

Thanks for responding!

Correct, this is not working. My mouse has only two buttoms. At work, I use UNIX, it's also copy by simple selection, and paste with right-clicks. But on my Fedora Linux laptop, none is working.

You might try clicking both mouse buttons at once - I don't know if the "Emulate3Buttons" setting is generally set or not.

No, not even that works.

I also have a server at home running Fedora 9. The typical select and paste works without any problem.

But in the laptop, the same doens't even work in a command terminal.

What setting is controlling such functions?

The selection is an X11 thing. I'm not sure why it wouldn't work on your laptop, but I can at least point you to some more info.
