Desktop and Applications speed issue

I recently installed Sabayon Linux another version of gentoo. KDE and some other apps like firefox seem to slow down my computer immensely.

I think it could have to do with memory leaks in KDE or QT and GTK, possibly an assortment of programs with leaks, or maybe even the kernel.

Also the CPU is kinda old (AMD Duron 1100MHz) I have 128MB RAM and a SiS 630/730 Display Adapter. Don't have an Nvidia or ATI card either.
Hate to say it but, it was never this slow on WinXP.

What is going on with the speed?

Does anyone have a better grasp on the issue?
If so is there a solution?

EDIT Nevermind - the RAM value of 16MB has been fixed to be 128MB
