Unhappy Creating repo manual error...


I have created the manual repository for rhel5 Linux....

But i am getting and error...

#yum install nfs

Loading "rhnplugin" plugin
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
This system is not registered with RHN.
RHN support will be disabled.
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
ftp://rhel01/opt/yum/repos/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: [Errno ftp error]
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: base

The configuration file is:-

cat repo.repo
[base]
name=My Custom Yum Repository
baseurl=ftp://rhel01/opt/yum/repos
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-redhat-release

Please help me on this....

you need to break things down more than that. forget about using the repo, can you ftp to it at all? It says it had an ftp error, so you need to at least ensure you can hit the server first.

Sorry i didn't get you ..... all vsftpd service are running and i have configured ftp in that server that is working fine... did you mean this then ftp is working fine.....

only the yum command is not working getting error.....

Just yum? I would personally doubt that. on that client, can you really run "curl ftp://rhel01/opt/yum/repos/repodata/repomd.xml" successfully?

Why is "/opt" in that url? The suggests the ENTIRE server disk is reachable over FTP... really??

i think it will be better if you did that on /etc/yum.repo/

dear i think it will be better if you put ur new manual yum file into
/etc/yum.repos.d/ directory as i think it will work better and be sure that vsftpd service running and there is no another enabled manaul yum file in the same directory will interfere with ur current yum

The location of the repo file is not in question. OP has also stated very clearly that vsftpd is already running.

if u run yum repolist command what is the output and are you sure that the permission on the ftp directory on the other server set with right way to let other to go into it
