yeah, but I think the motivation is more about a desire for tidiness rather than disk usage. I've never filled a hard disk yet: even back in the days when I had a 20MB quantum.

The desire for tidiness often is over maintenance. Rule #1: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

It also comes from resource challenged CPU & RAM, and a general slowing. Best solution is to wipe & reinstall. The 'wipe' is important.
