adjust gdm3 login

when I login to gnome it's ok for a while but logs me out too quickly. I'd like to set it for about 45 minutes till it logs me off. how do I do this?

it should NOT be loging you out
YOU have to do that

if the machine is turning off after 30 min.
then there is a hardware PROBLEM !!!!!!
likely it is over heating

it's not logging me off. It goes to a login screen similar to how windows, if set up that way, does after a period of idle time. It goes to a login screen and I have to type my password in again and I want that time to be longer than it is right now.

you are talking about " lock screen" - the default is normally 5 min.
that is not the same as logging you out

the way to set that is using the gui tools for whatever desktop you are using
the directions will be different for KDE, or Gnome, or xfce , or whatever
and is NOT set in gdm
i am guessing Gnome 3
it should be in the screensaver gui
