About lame to generate mp3 file

Hi all,

I'm trying to record the music, playing a Youtube video with following commands. But none of them could work.

1)
$ arecord -f cd -t raw | lame -x – out.mp3
Code:
System error.
Could not open sound file "–".
2)
$ arecord -f cd -t raw | lame -x –o out.mp3
Code:
System error.
Could not open sound file "–o"
3)
$ arecord -f cd -t raw | lame -x –r radetzky_march.mp3
Code:
System error.
Could not open sound file "–r"
Please help. Thanks

Regards

Why not just download and extract the audio?

Hi,

Yes, you're right.

Usually I download the Youtube video as mp4 file and run ffmpeg converting it to mp3.

But this video is not allowed to download therefore I have to recording its sound.

EDIT
====
I suppose the easy way is to record the music with mobile phone as voice-001.m4a. Run following command converting it to music mp3 file
Code:
$ ffmpeg -i voice-001.m4a music.mp3

If you use cli youtube-dl you can extract the audio in one step with the --extract-audio and --audio-format options.
