Man I hope they give Windows away for free. Those pretty 3d cd's they use would make fantastic coasters. I would replace the 200 AOL coasters I have right now with Windows XP cds.
Well, here's another data point. Windows TO ME is completely free, my company leases computers for us that telecommute. When ordering a replacement computer from Dell, I caused a stink by insisting, absolutely insisting that my computer come OS free and we get the cost of Windows eliminated from the price. They did (very large account). So, will I use Linux if Windows is free, no brainer. I wouldn't use it if they paid me. It is simply too unreliable, slow, and I truly hate the interface and the stupidity it assumes I must have.
Edit: LOL: Just got another report from my ISP. Two new virus' emails detected and blocked. :edit

My Windows is free. Any version I care to get. But i still love Linux because it teaches me how OS's work, including, ironically, Windows. I work with Windows but Linux has made me a much better Windows developer and gives me great ideas about how software 'ought' to work.
Originally posted by laceupboots Yes I would still use Linux. Actually I didn't pay for WindowsXP( came with the comp), and I did pay for Mandrake 9.2.
Trust me you do pay the price for any of Microsofts OS be it win95/98, win2k, or XP. When you buy a computer with a Microsoft OS on it. the price of that PC includes the OS. You didn't have to pay for mandrake either if you have a fast internet connection, you could just download a copy.
No I didn't have to pay for Mandrake, but I did. Because I wanted the manuel and the 30 day free membership to the Mandrakeclub that came with it. I have no doubt that Windows XP was included in the price of the PC, my point .....Linux was something that I chose to use and therefore I would use it if Windows was free or not.
