For me Linux is a fun Hobby and it's a no brainer to join a forum where you can communicate with other people who's Linux is their hobbies as well.. But mainly Cause I know I will learn a lot more about Linux if I did, than if I didn't..
The "If you want to learn Linux, install Slackware" meme got me.
Slackware is good teacher. Once you understand Slackware, no other distro will ever intimidate you, because Slackware teaches you how to figure stuff out.
While searching for a good forum this one happened to pop up. I lurked for a time and found that most knew what they were talking about. I like to help where I can so I joined.
I originally joined because I needed answers. But I've just checked my first three posts, and only one got a usable answer - and that was because I answered it myself! LQ got more interesting when I knew enough to provide answers, and so give something back to the community.
I as studying for an exam, and some how Google kept sending me here.
After few good readings to solve my problems, I registered as I realized that will keep visiting the site.
I came over from Linux Forums when that became so infested with scripts as to make it unusable. To my surprise, many of my old mates had come over before me so I felt at home at once.
