For those that don't know me well, and I'd say that is 98% of you out there, I've been a Novell admin for about 7 years. In that time, I have dealt with Windows NT and more recently, Windows 2003 as well. As an admin for a growing engineering firm, I've had the occasion of using Linux (RedHat based if you are curious) for many "needed it yesterday" type projects. About a month ago, I was taken aside and told (yes TOLD, not asked) by a new owner that all services would be moved over to Microsoft products and specifically told that Linux was to be removed immediately from any none-critical servers. I think this was more of a personal issue with me than a knock at Linux, but either way, I was pretty ticked.
Well folks, THAT VERY DAY, I went home to find a message from a company that said they received my name from a common vendor that both companies shared. After a few interviews, I am happy to say they offered me my dream job. They are a 100% Linux establishment (Novell Suse if you are curious) and hold a very prominent position in the area. Let’s just say without their services, your desktop computer would not be running right now. Thank you Ben Franklin.
Was it fate? I don't know, but it was a strange occurrence nonetheless. Anyone hoping to get into a 100% Linux situation, I'm proof that it is starting to happen so keep your head up. Your dream job could just fall into your lap as well.
I went for a job interview with a comany called Avanade - God what a load of arrogant MS loving lackies....
Good luck to you. I realise now that I'll only apply for a unix/linux job in the future, should i decide to change jobs. But I also realised I was okay where i am!
I work in a public library and have been pushing for Linux on the desktop for some time. The biggest problem has been that our Library Management Software (Sirsi's Unicorn WorkFlows) only runs on Windows. It sort of works under WINE, but not well enough to make the switch. Until now. Just this week we got the shiny new Java port of the WorkFlows staff client! Finally we'll be able to dump those virus infested, randomly crashing, over priced, under powered Win2k boxes
On top of that, our Sys. Admin. is seriously thinking about migrating from our Solaris servers to Red Hat the next time we upgrade!
Hang in there everyone. There's a revolution coming in the IT industry, and it's just around the corner...
And in a slightly related vein ; I'm in the interview-mill for a job at the dutch Google Data Centre.
Requirement : Three years of Linux-experience. (Plus a few minor addendums , but still....)
Distribution: K/Ubuntu 18.04-14.04, Scientific Linux 6.3-6.4, Android-x86, Pretty much all distros at one point...

It reminds me of those idiotic AOL commercials where people are saying "A new virus!!! Sounds neat!!! I'd like that!!!"
I just moved 47 gig of archive data (over 30 years worth of engineering work) plus our intranet calendaring system over to a public XP Pro share running MS-AMP (or WAMP). These were both on "non-critical" linux servers.
I'm not sure why I keep laughing everytime I talk about it, but it's seems a little ridiculous honestly. Do I dare ask how production quality open source software is worse than misusing MS shares running beta-quality web software? I guess I'm missing the real point, but then again, I'm not sure there was one other than to . It it possible that "fear the penguin" is a real nightmare for some people?
Anyway, thanks for the well wishes. Two more weeks to go!
