It still doesn't help change my opinion of Walmart. If anything, it would turn me off of Linux, being associated with Walmart.... Is it just me, or is Walmart worse than K-Mart and Target?
An article in todays NY Times says that Sun and Microsoft have made up. One wonders why? Sun has many interesting products...why do they need a technology sharing agreement with (and i loved this line) Ballmer and Butthead...my admiration of Sun has dropped a little today...
Sun got a lot out of the deal... but from the rest of that article... things have a long way to go kind of ironic -no? that walmart get in on the act makes ya think...

I was just trying to share something I thought was interesting and I felt like a bunch of people jumped down my throat for that. If you don't find it interesting, you don't have to read it and spend time replying to it etc. I suppose I made a mistake in posting it in the wrong forum. Big freakin' deal. I asked where it should be posted, Tricky answered, and from now on, if I were to post news stories (which I don't think I will...) I now know where to post. I'm sorry I posted it in the wrong place to begin with, but I don't understand why that should illicit a rant... Overall, the responses in this thread are very discouraging to someone who hasn't posted much. People shouldn't be afraid to start new threads.

Oh yes, CNN rarely does stories on computers, let alone Linux.
Right, which is exactly why I thought the fact that they had this article was interesting and worthy of posting. Not that I should have to defend why I posted an article.

Yeah. Walmart is scary and Walmart+Linux just seems like a strange combination to me.
I forgot to add this. Consumer reports did test with the computers with Lindows preloaded on them from walmart and they are crap, You cannot do anything on them. It is a shame that linux is being degredated by doing this, for it will turn people against linux for they will have used a crappy disto.
And BTW, should I be able to post sites with news everyone knows, and on top of that put it in the wrong board? The reason I did the first rant is becuase you did NOT read the stickys at the top of the general forum because if you had you would have posted in the right forum.
I get mad when people do that because I see Trickykid move posts 400 times a day and it really isnt his job to do this. He doesn't have to do this, and I doubt he wants to be moving posts constantaly. So I think it just considerate to actually use a bit a common sense when posting and choose the correct forum.

No one was jumping down your throat, most were just simply pointing out that this is not new.

I think most don't consider that most news stories, have been read. And if not and you don't find another thread that points to the same story, feel free to post it. But yes, General is for general type discussions. We reserve the actual Linux forums for actual technical questions.

No one was trying to discourage others from creating threads, we are simply stating you should at least make it look like you made an effort in searching our database for similiar threads before posting. And also consider news threads are usually linked on several major news sites, if one person read it on site A, I'm sure someone also read it on site B.
And I don't fee it was a rant until you started complaining about others simply pointing out the obvious. Whenever a thread is moved, either take it lightly and move on with the thread or email the mod privately if you disagree with the move. Your posting on a forum with more than 100k members, not everyone is going to agree with you and with as many members that do browse the site daily, usually posting news is just old news to most.

If you feel its worthy, then post it. But be considerate to our members and site, try to search before posting. Almost a million posts now, you wouldn't imagine the amount of repeats there are when newcomers feel they are the first to ask or post. Maybe we should start requiring new members to take a tutorial about searching before posting..
And you shouldn't have even defended. If you felt a member was out of line in their response, don't contest it, bring it up with a moderator to handle, that's why we're here.
Cheers and lets move on now with the topic once again. Anyone wants to keep discussing this silly comotion, email me.
Well I think people getting a bad taste of Linux from Lindows would be likely to end quickly after - for example - a visit here. Now to google that Consumer Reports article!
Oh lordy lordy lordy. I may have offended some poor innocent child! Lord forgive me!
Even though all the kids I know cuss more than me, i think it not logical to remove words such as that. I believe older farts, such as yourself (j/k) are more offended than any young and innocent child will be
