Walmart selling PC's with Linux.

This isn't a question, just news:
http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/ptech/0....ap/index.html

Is there a better place to post this?

Hmm I thought they had been selling PCs with Linux for a while now ...

trickykid 04-01-2004 05:19 PM

Yup, in General, not Linux - General. And also you should try searching, WalMart's been selling PC's with Linux for almost a year now. Just recently started selling the Java Desktop from Sun.. etc.

Pauli 04-01-2004 05:20 PM

AAGGGHHH! I was right, I got mixed up because it changed from linux - general to general. i thought I was wrong. Curses.

Oh well.

Cookie 04-01-2004 05:36 PM

Yes yes yes. The article says that they've been selling them since 2002, so I'm aware of that, thanks. I just thought I'd share the news. It's only being reported in the news just now.

I had to, I'm a moderator and I could tell clearly you posted in the wrong forum. Then I saw that this was basically old news from a year or two ago.. sorry for ruining your parade man..

Cookie 04-01-2004 08:05 PM

Fine. It was news to me. I don't see why people have to be rude about it. Especially a moderator.

ETA: As a matter of fact, it was NOT reported in cnn back in 2002. It may have been reported in PCWorld and the like, but not in the mainstream news. Hence it was news to me and others who may not read computer magazines.

vi0lat0r 04-01-2004 08:07 PM

:-) That's nice. Too bad I don't buy premade systems, lol.

EDIT: I don't think tricky was being rude, just stating facts ;-) No hard feelings I say :-)

Yeah, I don't think my post was rude, just stating simply some information to others who are going to read this thread. You shouldn't take things so personal and or so sensitive.

So lets move on with the actual topic. If you feel like arguing about it, email me or the site admin. If we continue to argue over something this stupid, I'll just save all of us some time and close the thread.

Regards.

Well,...

Until they start selling them at retail rather than online, I'm not impressed. I do like the fact that they've gotten a little press for it.

Pauli 04-02-2004 09:43 AM

I think it was my post which was the most rude, and that was becuase you did not read the rules for posting. Even so, I tried to go back and make it sound less rude because I re-read it and I came off sounding like a prat. Then I saved the changes, came out and found the thread was in general, so I went and deleted it, and then I read Trickys post on how he moved it etc etc etc....

Tricky was not rude he simply exaplined that it was old news. He did not insult you and did not attempt to call you stupid. Why say he was rude?

Actually, I heard about lindows being sold pre loaded on computers a few years ago. This was not from PC World and whatnot, besides the fact that PC World is kinda boring. All it gives is simple windows tips in like every issue that most people allready use. Its allright to find out about new hardware though.

Oh yes, CNN rarely does stories on computers, let alone Linux. I have never ever seen something in news on linux. Ever. So to say it wasnt reported by mainstream news is irrelevant becuase the news I saw didnt announce with great excitement the release of the AMD 64, so most likely they wouldnt do a story on linux be sold on boxes at walmart.

And ETA? Estimated Time of Arrival?

SelaAragon 04-02-2004 10:29 AM

LOL the referenced article also says Dell doesn't offer Linux but erm...they do. You can buy Dell Workstations and Servers running Red Hat...but then these days...isn't that close to the same as running Microsoft?
