The ultimate solution for Windows malware?

Full story here:-

http://news.com.com/Corrupted+PCs+fi...=st.rc.targ_mb

Good news for Linux users - all those lovely machines just waiting to be hooked out of the dumpster and given a good home with a proper OS...

This is the bit I find hard to believe, though:

Quote:
Tucker, an Internet industry executive who holds a doctoral degree in computer science, decided that rather than take the time to remove the offending software, he would spend $400 on a new machine.
A "doctoral degree in computer science" and he can't be bothered to run an anti-virus/spyware scan once in a while? Or more to the point, doesn't know how to take the most elementary security precautions to stop the malware in the first place? Words fail me!

What about simply formatting the hard disk rather than the more expensive option of buying new hardware?

No wonder people think Linux is "difficult to install." They can't even use a recovery CD for Windows XP.
