The next World War will be ...

Here's your chance to predict details of the next World War. This was inspired by Mikhail Gorbachev's comment:
"The world is on the brink of a new Cold War. Some are even saying that it's already begun."
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-29966852

What do you say, how will the next world war be ? Maybe even when will it be ? The poll is anonymous.

No facts needed here, so people entrenched in facts should use their time elsewhere. If you have some factual support tho, that will help your argument.

Don't know how it will be, but sadly the possibility looks close. By the way, according to Noam Chomsky in an article published yesterday the world is ominously close to a nuclear war.

Let's not forget:

"I do not know how the Third World War will be fought, but I can tell you what they will use in the Fourth — rocks!"
-Albert Einstein

Thanks, I missed the Chomsky article, looks like Gorbachev isn't alone in his prediction. I see Chomsky adds in the possibility of Armageddon, certainly plausible.

I was thinking more along the lines of something close to World War 2, but who knows for sure. I notice similarities between the Great Depression 1.0 (1929-39 or 42), and the more recent Great Depression 2.0 (2008) / Recession, plus the dust bowls then (1930-40) and now (2009). I'd say using these numbers, WW 3 should start around 2018.

If nuclear war is inevitable then I would move to one of those countries in the video, if that is not possible then I hope to be right at ground zero so I don't have to live through the nuclear nightmare. At least I'll be dead within 1 second, vs not being able to be at a safe distance away from all the fallout and have to contend with radiation sickness and a painful death.

Interesting. I would say the southern hemisphere might be safer because I'm guessing most nukes will land in the northern hemisphere. The Pacific islands look good to me, just need a boat. Certainly if lots of nukes will be launched a quicker death is preferable.

Yes, but considering the possibility of Armageddon, we won't all need to

Well it will be next movie on my list. I like fantastic movies.

However I do not think that the next war will be Cold/Nuclear or it will be sudden Armageddon.
Let's remember how USSR with its huge troops dead. It's enough to economically strangle the expected enemy (if you can to do it).

A classic and moving novel* and a vision I thought would be confined to my childhood of When The Wind Blows and videos about getting under tables with sheets on them.
Call me an optimist (there's a first time for everything) but I can't see a nuclear war developing as a lot of the MAD equipment and procedures are gone. I can, however, envisage a lot of running battles, border disputes and various no-fly and no shipping zones in the fairly near future.

I didn't think of that one, but I didn't like that movie anyway.

Other possibilities of Third World War that also could happen

This brings me to another point, since this is all speculation I am probably hijacking this thread now, but I still feel this relates to the original topic, albeit going into different tangents:

What if the USSR won the cold war pt. 1
What if the USSR won the cold war pt. 2
What if the cold war never ended

I don't think we will have another world war. We have moved on from the days when world wars were based on Empires and colonial possessions.

With regards to Gorby's comment I think he is actually mistaken we have been in a cold war since 1990.The old one finished in 1989-1990 with collapse of the USSR, the new one started with Russia asserting its power in the place of the USSR. Boris Yeltsin was a good man but his choices were heavily influenced by back room men and now we have Putin who thinks the collapse of the USSR and Communist Bloc was the greatest tragedy since WW2.

I do think, but hope I am wrong, there will be a war between NATO and Russia eventually but it wont be a world war. Russia, under Putin, is only interested in rebuilding the USSR/Russian Empire so Moscow has a buffer against non Russian influences and possible although highly unlikely aggression. I also don't think it will happen while we have the difficulties we do with rouge groups such as ISIL.

The Commonwealth is not what it used to be, we have no obligation to defend the UK apart or join in its wars because we are a part of the Commonwealth of Nations (which is what it is now called). There is a difference with Australia and New Zealand in that we are still part of the "Commonwealth Realms" which is different to the Commonwealth of Nations. There simply is no legal obligation at all for any Commonwealth nation or realm to join a war that the UK is part of even to defend the UK from external or even internal aggression.
