teaching technology quandry - Advice appreciated!

Hello all!

I'm in a quandry here. It seems to me that public education in the US seems to not have a place for hackers...IE me. I use this term loosely, None of my toys stayed in one piece for more than a day, I ALWAYS took them apart to see how they work. I am that way with Linux. I get more enjoyment about discovering how a computer works from the inside out. Discovering new errors means a chance for me to learn something new.
Linux is more challenging then Windows. Thats why I use it. I teach myself the things I need for technology.
I am a newbie, determined to learn all I can. I am into robotics and home automation...etc..etc.I have been building my computers since 1998, and modding since 2003.

I had wanted to teach technology to middle schoolers in the public school sense, however none of my knowledge counts. (towards teaching middle schoolers how to use Power Point or MS Word.)

It would be cheaper for at this point to become a Doctor than it would be for me to go to school for three years after my masters in order to teach technology. However, I have learned that school does not pay the bills, it only creates them.

I want to teach as well. Its in my blood. The question I have is this: Can one start a successful educational business supporting mostly FLOSS? I could charge a little for disks containing Firefox, open office, etc. to give to the developers. My money would come from education.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Well, first of all, I don't know why you have to go to school for three years in order to tecah in public schools in the US. I got my teaching certificate and master's in education in one year. That's right--one year (including part of a summar). It's hell, but it doesn't take that long.

If you're not that tied to public, most private (or "independent") schools will let you teach even if you have a bachelor's degree.
