Some internet slang you may not know

I found this whilst trauling the net, some internet slang and it's origins. I thought they were quite amusing:

Glasscock - A long time ago when the internet was young, everyone knew everyone via email. Now one day a woman won a golfing contest. The trophy was made of glass. A picture was taken of it, and from the angle, it looked like a giant glass penis. Now everyone saw it over email and sent it to all their friends. Within days everyone had five copies of it in their inbox. As a result, everyone had seen the glass cock (see it yourself here ). And it became a slang way of saying "something we've seen a billion times before". So for example, if a new Neoseeker was to post a link to All Your Base, we would have the right to say "that is so hugely glasscock it just isn't funny".

Borked- broken. Probably originated in hackerspeak somewhere. Correct use- "My PC is seriously borked". Can also be spelt b0rked.

Belm- Difficult to explain. The best way is to make you do it. Shoev your tongue as hard as you can to the forefront of your mouth (between your chin and your bottom teeth). Now say the following line. "mnnnnghhhhhhhhh". That is belming. It is done to express that someone is/ did something stupid. An example:

"Oh no! I left the noodles in the boiling water too long! They look like bones"

*Belms*

Hatstand- Something completely and utterly random. An example-

"Last night I was raped by a chicken for being simply too bumloveable."
"That was a bit hatstand, wasn't it?"

Mindpiss- To think of something at exactly the same time as someone else, both to post it, and see that you are geniuses thinking alike. Correct use- "Argh! Mindpiss!". It can also be used in it's seperate forms- "Stop pissing on my mind".

NSFW- Not Suitable for Work. Used for linking to loud sweary animations, pornography, and basically anything that could get you fired if you are caught looking at while on a work/school PC. Also comes in flavours NSFA (Not Suitable For Anyone- something utterly disgusting) and NSFW (Not Suitable For Epileptics- something that flashes a lot). Remove the N to get SFW, indicating that something is work/child safe.

Redex- When someone with inferior internet knowledge has tried to post an image and failed, resulting in a red cross in a box

Spong- A picture where a person/character has had their eyes made absolutely huge and cartoon-esque.

WTFAYBOAB?- What the *bleep* are you banging on about? An excellent way of expressing confusion and/or that someone is talking out of their rectum

Anyone know of the history of any other slang? (that cock one is great)

It looks to me as though you have either been browsing B3TA or had a look at the dictionary on 4rthur. Both excellent sites.

Borked comes from the attempted appointment of Robert Bork to supreme court by Reagan:

Quote:
The word recalls what happened to Judge Robert Bork when former US President Ronald Reagan nominated him to the Supreme Court. He was tarred and feathered, depicted as close cousin of Attila the Hun, and made to seem so toxic in his conservatism that even Mr Reagan's political allies were forced to abandon him.

Much of the B3TA slang comes from the fact that it is an English site with a broadly English user base. For example, many of their memes are English - the ever loud Brian ("GORDON'S ALIVE!!!") Blessed, Thora Hird, Last of the Summer Wine. These names are unlikely to mean much outside of the UK.

"Hatstand" is indeed from the Viz - "Lawrence Logic - He's totally hatstand"

Other memes used on the site are kittens (lots and lots of kittens), polar bears (lots and lots of polar bears), badgers (lots and lots of badgers) and penguins (lots and.. you get the picture). Many of the images you see on the web and in a few UK adverts came from members of the site - as in the Badger Song - their images tend to need flash.

For other examples of British humour on the Intraweb - see The Rockall Times

For *this* I registered.

Roger Irrelevant was Totally Hatstand, not Mr Logic (who's soubriquet (is that the right word?) is "He's a pain in the arse".

Mr Logic sample dialogue:
Armed Robber: No nonsense. Just give me all your money.

Mr Logic: I shall commence by pointing out to you that my demeanour is not one which could be described as nonsensical. Consequently I can attest you have no cause to reprimand me on your first point. On to your second point: Bearing in mind the potentially lethal situation in which I find myself, to wit: your presence in conjuction with the presumably loaded firearm which is presently levelled at my cranium, I will comply with your request comprehensively, albeit reluctantly. Here, twenty-seven pence.

Roger Irrelevant (a young man with a very strange mental problem where he continually produces irrelevant and surreal streams of language.) should not be confused with Roger Mellie (the Man on the Telly), author of the foul mouthed dictionary the Profanisaurus (available online - find it yourselves).

doesn't bork come from the muppet's swedish chef?
I heard once that there was a newsgroup along the lines of:
alt.swedishchef.bork.bork.bork
