Redhat 9 halts after the system has been running anywhere from 3-20 min. the mouse freezes, num-l;ock and scroll-lock lights blink and that is all.... I reverted back to .8 kernel (original) and things work alittle better most of the time but at least twice a day I find myself powering off because nothing works.... screen stays on and thats all....

if anyone has even the slightest clew, please let me know, I cannot find any help tips or others with this problem....

pc- Sony Vaio 1.7, 768mb, 40gb hd 1/2 RH9, 1/2 XP Pro..... everything is detected, updates seem to work, not sure what the problem is.

Does /var/log/kernel report anything unusual ?

there is no kernel in the /var/log dir.
not sure though it drives me crazy...... just beginning to write something or edit something and the dang machine just stalls, and never recovers.....
