question about the notice at the top of this sub-forum

I just observed the notice at the top of this sub-forum, mandating polite behavior. Is that new? I don't remember seeing it last time I looked in non-NIX General, which was probably not recently.

I was inactive in LQ for a few weeks and yes the notice is quite new. Something might have happened in General (flame war?).

I don't see that, so it must be user-specific. ;-)

Perhaps you clicked the X to close the notice window?

I see it. I noticed it yesterday for the first time.

I don't know for certain, but I believe it may have something to do with this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ce-4175595960/

I am using W10 to browse the forums today, and I saw the notice message earlier today. In the upper RH corner there was an oversized reddish X, when I clicked it the notice went away, and has not come back after subsequent logins to the forum. Maybe it is a one-time notice or something.

I keep the reminder/notice visible. I like having a reminder on why. When I get a itch to post in General.

To just shake my head and walk on.

How do re-enable the notice to display again after you turned it off? I've been looking around but so far haven't found the setting.

The notice is new and will appear for all members until it is dismissed. We haven't decided how long it will remain, but "January" seems like a reasonable estimate, although the increased moderation will remain. It's simply a reminder that LQ should be a welcoming and friendly place, but the thread linked by frankbell was part of the impetus for adding the notice. If you have any feedback, let us know.
