Just read this story in The Register about how M$ is allowing Intervideo to use their tech in a Linux port of WinDVD.
Hmmm, thinking about it, this may be more of a General post.
I think that this means that either Microsoft are dipping their toes into the Linux water, seeing how their stuff works and is received or that they don't care about little stuff getting ported as it shows their willingness to abide by the anti-trust case without doing anything too pro-active.
I agree with Deamon, if M$ would try to "go nice" with linux they wolud have released their NTFS specs for the linux proj so that we could write to it. Also I belive that M$ never will do anything without a thougth given to profit.
M$ only does what's good for M$, not what's the right thing, or what is good for their consumers.
If they are working to port WMP to linux (or I think its just the format, not the player itself) then its because they have an angle. As stated above, the angle is probably that they want ANOTHER de-facto standard that they own and can charge for (a-la .doc format).
The sad thing is, this will likely work. Personally I won't use it.
Apparently, enough people think their products are good enough for them to go out and voluntarily purchase them directly or preinstalled on hardware products.
