Linux Fedora Install help

Hi, I've recently bought a Linux fedora disk set, but it has errors every time I install it, quitting the install at various times. It never gets past the kernel, though. What causes this?
I also have slackware. How do I boot to the graphical desktop? Every time I boot and login as root, I'm still in console. How do I get graphical desktop?

to get to the GUI, just type startx on the prompt.

what are the outputs when the install of fedora quits?

'Install exited abnormally
sending termination signals...Done
...'
Things like that.
Thanks for the Slackware GUI prompt.

Ok. Where did you get the fedora disc set? From some place for 3 bucks? Because then it may not be good, try downloading the isos and burning them. I did it at school where we have a t1 and it was quick enough.

I did fedora and it worked fine, but I had to make a boot disc to get it to install. Do you have windows? Because then you COULD make an iso from the discs you bought and attempt an install from HD with a boot disc. This may tell you if it is the cd drive or the data on the discs themselves.

I had the same thing with slack, I think they should make a message that tells you how to get into the gui.

Oooch. That got me when I tried to configure my monitor settings. I dont think it likes me, I had to reintsall and leave the normal settings.

You can run xf86config (I think thats the command) and try to set it up manually, but for me that never worked. Id get some better advice than mine.
