Actually, the cloth seals are a little compressed around the glass, the door, and elsewhere.

@joegumbo... not that you asked about this... But if there is that much ash, I would additionally be concerned about the state of your smoke detector. As it is, they are only rated to last 10 years. But you have an additional 7 years of high particulate matter build up that could have reduced the effectiveness. Testing it with real smoke only further reduces it's effectiveness..

true, any house with a fire should definitely have a working smoke detector.

you can also buy filters made for case fans.
