Is mySuse a legit Linux website ??

Somewhere I came across a link to a website named mySuse and I took a look at it. There was a news item that Mozilla had a 1.5 version of its Firefox browser now available. Although I am very happy with Suse's Konqueror browser I figured it would not hurt to update my Firefox browser.

I download the tar file and extracted it and shut down my computer. When I started my computer up again my Konqueror browser would not connect to any of my bookmarks. I sent the downloaded Firefox to the trash bin and my Konqueror browser is working again. Is mySuse a legit Linux website or did I just foul up the download ??

Theres really no Linux site that purposefully contains malcontent that could damage your computer.

Its a completely different community that surrounds Linux. Most are have a genuine interest in making your Linux experience the best experience possible. Besides, most linux users know that most other linux users aren't stupid and could'nt damage your computer anyways. Most of the talented programmers that COULD damage your computers are making positive contributions instead.

Well, I don't think that there is actually any real malware for *NIX. I mean, who would bother, if we could fix it from a live-cd?

Suse doesn't make Konqueror, that's actually KDE's browser.

The problem is with firefox 1.5 it has some issues yet that is why most of the major distros don't have it in their repositories yet. You can download firefox and install it yourself but it is better to wait for the distro to add it.

Well, yeah, but what about, say Debian sarge users? _no chance_. One down if you have slack or gentoo, but if you have any distro that emphasizes stability and security, sorry.

My Windows XP Firefox browser used to get hijacked quite often. I should not have downloaded the 1.5 version at all.

I noticed that I can not change the settings of the Firefox browser in my Suse Linux 10 Gnome desktop. All of a sudden I am getting nervous.

Linux users might be on the up and up, but I do not trust Microsoft to leave other systems alone.

I still have my fears about mySuse.org

FWIW I've never heard of "mysuse.org" before, but after taking a look at it, it appears to be a freelance site. It does not appear to have any official connection to SuSE itself.

Regarding Firefox, I would suggest just downloading and installing it manually. The installation process itself is pretty trivial, and you won't have to wait till v1.5 gets incorporated into an official distro release

Thank You J.W.!!

Thank You Slantoflight I have recently thought of myself as too old for fear. The Internet Apprehension that is on my back comes from losing the battle with Hijackings and Spyware while I was trapped in the Gates Gulag of Windows. It took years of frustration and defeat to embed this apprehension I am afraid it is going to take years for it to subside. I guess my beatings through Windows have left Large scars.
