Question installing windows into a virtual box

As per the instructions given to me, I have installed VirtualBox OSE on my system using Software Manager.

Please tell me the steps involved in installing Windows into a virtual box.
I would also like to state that I have windows set-up on my hard disk drive. So can I install windows directly from the set-up stored on my hard disk or I will be needing a bootable DVD for the purpose of installing Windows.

Hi,

This is more of a Windows question in my opinion since it involves only installation of Windows in VirtualBox and has nothing to do with Linux.

That being said, you need to boot your virtual machine either from the DVD indicating in VirtualBox to use your host drive, or create an ISO of the DVD with for example Brasero and boot your virtual machine from the ISO.

Kind regards,

Eric

I see you're running Mint? Look under the main menu for VirtualBox, possibly system tools but may be under a different heading. Start VirtualBox and the GUI will show no Virtual Systems. Select "New" and you'll be taken through the set up where you'll have to allocate disk space, say 20Gb?, etc. You'll also need your Windows CD/DVD to be loaded in your drive as the source. Follow the instructions...
Once the system's loaded, you'll get Windows as a choice within the main GUI. Select it and hit "RUN" and you're good to go.

Does this help or have I missed your point?

Play Bonny!

You should have a look at the very detailed manual for Virtualbox.

Hi,

do I understand correctly that you want to access a physical harddisk from within virtualbox instead of a virtual drive? If this is the case then you should know that this is rather dangerous. You might damage the system and suffer data loss.
Read more about it here:
