Installing Squid for Windows Server 2003 x64 R2

Hi LQ members, I'm Jeff, one of the newest members here at LQ. Just want to ask the experts regarding how to install Squid for Windows Server 2003.

I saw a website which has a configuration code but the problem is I don't know where to insert the codes/configurations? Below is the website where I got the configuration code in installing squid for Windows Server 2003.

http://www.reaper-x.com/2006/07/18/c...r-for-windows/

I really, really need to set this one up so hopefully anyone can help me out here. Thanks in advance and good day to all.

Jeff

Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,

As indicated in the website name, this is a set of forums dedicated to Linux and its users. Since your question concerns configuration of Squid, I'm guessing it would be OK to answer. Normally non Linux questions go into another forum, so I'll report your thread to the moderation team so that they can move it over to a forum where it will get the attention it deserves.

Back to your question, from the website you pointed to:
Quote:
After extracting it into G:\Squid, go into etc directory “G:\Squid\etc” and rename all the .default file into .conf file. For example squid.conf.default -> squid.conf, mime.conf.default -> mime.conf, etc
Open squid.conf file using your favorite text editor such as Notepad, Ultraedit, etc. and configure it like this (you can change it later) but im not going into more detail here since most squid configuration are self explanatory and that’s depending on your hardware too (for example the memory size, cache size, etc). But you can always use this squid.conf directly in your squid configuration without changing any of its parameter as long as you extract squid into G:\Squid directory otherwise you’ll need to change every parameter that include G:\squid into your squid path
This means you should have a directory Squid\etc which holds the configuration files. Your configuration should go in the squid.conf file.

Looking forward to your participation in the forums.

Kind regards,

Eric

Yes that part is easy where you just need to rename everything on the "etc" folder but base on the website after the part that says:

<-- Open squid.conf file using your favorite text editor such as Notepad, Ultraedit, etc. and configure it like this (you can change it later) but im not going into more detail here since most squid configuration are self explanatory and that’s depending on your hardware too (for example the memory size, cache size, etc). But you can always use this squid.conf directly in your squid configuration without changing any of its parameter as long as you extract squid into G:\Squid directory otherwise you’ll need to change every parameter that include G:\squid into your squid path -->

It just goes straight to the configurations whic is indicated below:

# HTTP Port (in this tutorial squid will run on localhost at port 3128)
http_port 127.0.0.1:3128

# ICP Port and HTCP Port (we’ll disable this since we are not going to use it)
icp_port 0
htcp_port 0

# Cache Peer (we’ll forward all request into parent proxy)
cache_peer 127.0.0.1 parent 4001 7 no-query

Where will I input these configs?

Thanks for the reply.

Jeff

Hello,

That configuration would go into the squid.conf file as I indicated in my previous post. You could just leave the 'default' squid.conf file as it is and create an empty squid.conf file in the etc directory and put your configuration parameters in there.

Kind regards,

Eric
