I can't believe it -- I just found a complete Win 3.11 install set!

OMG! I've been ramping around my old computer trash when I found 13 perfect-condition working floppies for MS-DOS 6.22 and Win 3.11! I mean, how many 10-year-old prfect-condition floppies are there? That is a damn rarity!

Ermmm.. Ok, I'm happy for you!

Did you know we have a blog section available for you to post random thoughts, perhaps threads like these are better suited in your very own blog.

Just a thought!

A few months back I found in my junk closet (and threw out ) several copies of DOS 5 and 6, win 3.1, and a Visual Basic 6 set with a mint VB book.

I've always loved DOS and never liked Windows much. We stuck with DOS almost exclusively until Windows 98 came out. Then we only made the switch because we couldn't use internet very well and obviously there was no more software to support the better printers, etc. Still, we were dragged into Windows kicking and screaming.

I really like command-line, maybe because I was raised on DOS. Who knows. I knew DOS forwards, backwards, and upside-down. I can see how that would contribute to my appreciation for Linux.

I remember my very first PC having DOS and Windows 3.1 (133MHz, 8MB Ram, ..)

I always used both, and Windows 3.1 was quite fun (and FAAAST, even on that crap hardware). DOS paved the way for me to switch to Linux

DOS is pretty limited when compared to bash which is a pretty basic shell compared to some alternatives.

I still have my PC-DOS 2.1 and MS-DOS 2.11 somewhere around here. They're on 360kb 5.25 inch floppies. Heck, I've got data on 180kb single-sided floppy disks. Probably none of those old disks are readable anymore though. I've still got a couple of 1.2mb 5.25 inch floppy drives, although not installed in any system right now.

Besides the DOS version 2.1 and 2.11, I've CP/M and CP/M-86, MS-DOS 3, DR-DOS 4, IBM DOS 4, MS-DOS 5 and MS-DOS 6.22, Windows 3.0, Windows 3.11, OS/2 1.2 Lite, OS2 2.0 (a better DOS than DOS, a better Windows than Windows), OS2 Warp 3, OS2 Warp 4, Win 98, Win 98SE, Win ME, Win NT 4, Win 2000 PRO, Win XP Home Edition, Win XP Pro... I'm sure I have others. I'm a pack rat, I guess.
