How to set up Linux - Win 98 LAN?
Hi!
I have Linux (dual boot with Win XP) system (192.168.1.1 = Rincewind) and Win 98 box (192.168.1.2 = Magda). Rincewind is Internet gateway for Magda, it works for Win XP and Win 98 machines. But when I'm switching Win Xp to Linux it doesn't work. I can send pings from Linux box to Win 98 (it works by IP number "ping 19.168.1.2" and by name "ping Magda"). I can ping Lin machine from Win 98 but only by IP number ("ping 192.168.1.1) but not by name (ping Rincewind occurs Host unknown error). How to set up Win98 and Linux machines to Network? How set up Linux box as a Internet gateway for Win 98 box? There are my some config files:
/etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.1.1 Rincewind.UnseenUniversity.Net Rincewind
192.168.1.2 Magda.UnseenUniversity.Net Magda
/etc/sysconfig/network
HOSTNAME=Rincewind.UnseenUniversity.Net
NETWORKING=yes
GATEWAY=192.168.1.1
GATEWAYDEV=ppp0
FORWARD_IPV4=true
I switched on routing to 192.168.1.1 with Guidedog.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong and how to make this small LAN working (with Linux box as a gateway).
Any suggestions?
Regards
