ROOT.
Grammar has been debated on LQ since before I joined. It is a legitimate debate, especially when everyone is trying to be understood by everyone else. Look at the records of posting of just about everyone who has posted here: yes, we may not like seeing badly worded/txtspk/etc posts but that does not prevent us from helping the posters if they have a real issue.

Debates of this nature are what General is used for.

There are many times when the only thought I have is to overcome the self-preservation instinct and complete the process of suicide in the hopes that other people watching will become permanently damaged.
I could care less about being grammatically correct.

Sure sounds like a bunch of squabble. Sorry My 12th grade education I failed English year after year. Seems there is a bigger picture.
So let's just get the soldering iron out like I did 25 years ago, and get back to getting the job done. Now day's it is click this click that type this type that, did I offend you with my spelling. my none punctuation.
we all have a choice read or not. Fix or not.
Global warming does this I am sure of it. Right Al.

Life is to short to worry about a i o u EE.

Coming late to this party.....
While we can all find offensive grammar just about anywhere we look, I would argue that this is a computer forum--not one on English composition.

My personal standard is simply that a person knows how to make themselves understood without unnecessary garbage (eg SMS). We do have our rule about English-only, and the more egregious cases of texting shorthand generally get the attention of the moderators.

It's ALWAYS OK to say: "I'm sorry that I cannot understand what you have written---perhaps if you........"

Your grammar is good but your poll is not totally clear as whether or not we would help them with their grammar or their Linux problem. I'm assuming the latter.

If I'm able, I would gladly provide help to anyone who provided me with enough info to do so. If they didn't, a simple request for that information would surely produce it.

We have to remember that many members are struggling with a second language.

Hope I haffent miss-spelt enything.

Cheers, Lou

haffent??? A form of the negated past tense of the verb "to do".....?

How about "dint"---A "second-order contraction"---like so:

did not ---> didn't ---> dint

"miss-spelt"---that's a spelling error by an unmarried woman. Surely you meant "mis-spelt".....
