google talk and xmpp

I read somewhere [1] that google talk is going to support the xmpp protocol, which is a protocol supported by Jabber. On the page, they say that iChat (the mac software) is a jabber client [2].
Does it mean that google talk will be compatible with iChat (and gaim, and many other popular clients?)

anybody has an idea?

[1] (in german, sorry)

Yes, I currently have a google talk account in gaim.

They [google] have HowTos on their site for setting it up.

Here is the list of compatible clients. Click on the name of a client to see the instructions.

Wow, that's cool.
