Ever Pay for Free Software?

Just wondering. I've bought a Red Hat package before, I think it was Red Hat 8.

Edit: Sorry, this should have gone in General, not Linux-General. My bad.

Being a grade 8 student, I can't afford to as yet.

If I did, the first thing I would buy would be a set of Slack CDs, then the Gentoo DVD.

Sort of. I paid for a book that had a copy of Red Hat FC1 included with it. I'm not sure if Red Hat got a cut of what I paid, but as I paid to get FC1 I figure it counts.

Cheers

Yes, both distro and software.

But it was a voluntary donation, rather than 'buying' the software. . .

Same here. If you've done any development work at all, you understand just how much time and effort goes into "free" software...

Never have, Never will until they start charging for Linux and it's software, if they do that then I won't even look at linux.

Likewise.

I bought Mandrake 9.2, and 10.1 because of a dial up connection. Now that I have DSL I don't have to buy it anymore.
