“Elon Musk has sued ChatGPT-maker OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman, saying they abandoned the startup's original mission to develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity and not for profit.”
Let me guess: "Rich dude that was offered investment opportunity in start-up and turned it down because he wouldn't make a profit get pissed when start-up starts making profit."
Since Musk doesn't have any stake in the company, how would he even have any standing in court? Might better spend his efforts to make some profit for the people who invested in his silly Twitter purchase.
I don't think it is at all accurate to dismiss Elon Musk as "just another Billionaire spoiled brat". He grew up with wealth and brains and his motivations, while seeing wealth as a means to explore his "hobbies" it should be utterly obvious that after he put his own personal wealth. essentially all of it, "All In" that his primary motivation, the End Game, isn't wealth, it's going down in History as an important force for All Mankind. It certainly looks like he is well on the way.
Furthermore, his devotion to Open Source Linux and it's successes, seems at least part of why NASA's Mars Helicopter went with Linux in place of the proprietary OpSys NASA has depended on for scores of years. Is he also plagued by flaws? Of course. He's Human.
I think Musk invested some 'chump change' (for him) at the start-up - +/- 15M.
Which is meaningless as the article specifically states that he currently holds no stake in the company. I'd be interested in whatever explanation might be offered to explain his attempt to explain why a court should even get involved with this. That he invested some money years ago is completely irrelevant.

His suit might hinge on whether or not he can prove he was enticed to invest with the promise of Openai going open source. Their side of it is here: https://openai.com/blog/openai-elon-musk

He might have had a case if he had sued them when he still had some investment in the enterprise which he no longer has. As far as whether he was 'enticed' to buy for whatever reason, the old adage of 'let the buyer beware'. Do your own due diligence. He certainly would have had the capability to do that. No more empathy for that case than for the investors in Twitter who obviously didn't do that either.
