i believe that you actually decided to flip a coin ... you are a deep guy ... my respect ...

sorry ... its really really all about the personality thing ... just like everything else in your decisions and your life ...
ok ... almost forgotten about ubuntu ...
can still remember the first time i go and check out this ubuntu ... my first impression is that its about a gathering full of silly people coaxing dark children(or dark pigmies) doing somekind of arms-wavering-sing-along of hair-standing catchy chorus ... i thought that was utterly disrespectfully reactionary to mankind ...
but ... there was a time when one of my own people "re-introduced" me to ubuntu again ...
i believe my own people can be trusted even if in the end i still cant find this ubuntu attractive enough to me ...
Like many others, I think I use what works best for me. With debian, there are many options I can use. If I feel like configuring my system myself and creating config files, I can do that, but there are also many tools to make the computer do it for me (If I feel Lazy ).
I am not so much concerned about the "free" nature of debian, more the fact that it does what I want it to quickly, with a minimal amount of fuss and (nearly) always works first time.

That's the funniest thing I've read for a long time. ROTFL - literally.
I don't think my choice describes my personality, either. I "grew up" with Redhat and Fedora, and have pretty much stuck with it. Sure, I've branched out, trying other distros, but I keep coming back to my trusty Fedora.
Like alred, I see Ubuntu as the stranger in the bunch. To me Ubuntu is the Macintosh of Linux; very sleek and easy out of the box. I'm not a Mac guy, but when others ask me about Linux, I throw them a copy of Ubuntu. If I like them, I won't cut the CD into a sawblade and aim for their foreheads.
