Configuring protocols in ISA 2004 server??

in ISA 2004, in the server management console when i call up the properties of a server (Arrays->Server->property) immediately i clicked the Protocol tab an error message pops up saying:

"The operation failed
Continue Details"

and hence everything freezes both the program and all things, even the mouse cannot respond. this has happened over and over now.
whats the cause of this and the solution?
