Yes I've just heard about that as well. Police say it's still too early to determine the cause (may not be bombs). Maybe some Londonites can tell us some first hand accounts. By all accounts it sounds like pandemonium.

I might be thinking too much into this, but is someone angry that London got the olympic games? Sounds like terrorists. You have to wonder how easy that could happen in any city around the world. Austin, Texas to Vancouver Washington, Mexico City, Paris, Sydney.. Its horrible..

Careful making such jumps-to-conclusion. No one - not even Scotland Yard - knows the exact reasons or causes for this.

Comments like that are entirely unnecessary. They serve no purpose except to stir up the easily-frightened.
Adz, I think he's just thinking aloud and asking questions. We're all big boys here and know the reality of the world today and the likelyhood of this happening anywhere... Looks nasty from the news and we hope that there are not too many fatalities and injuries there...
German online news magazine SPIEGEL Online now says that there has been a letter posted in a notorious web forum ("al-Qala'a"), in which a certain "secret organisation: al-qaeda in europe" claims responsibility. SPIEGEL says there have been various publications of this al-qaeda on the site which are held for being authentic by western experts, although there were obvious fakes also.
For those of you who read german, the SPIEGEL article is here:
Prisonplanet again, yellow press par excellance, and experts in asking silly questions.
I quote from the site (headline first): BREAKING: Scotland Yard says it got a warning before the attack and told Israel
[...]Israeli News is reporting that "The Israeli Embassy in London was notified in advance, resulting in Finance Minister Binyamin Netanyahu remaining in his hotel room[...]Plus why did Netanyahu get a warning and the victims didn't?
Rubbish. If it's really the almighty MI5 behind it, as the site claims, then they had either planned to
a. kill Benjamin Netanjahu - in which case he'd be dead meat by now. They are almighty, remember?
or
b. spare Benjamin Netanjahu - in which case they would have placed their bombs accordingly. What exactly could a warning by the Yard be good for then?
Even my three year old nephew is able to figure this one out.
This has MI5 written all over it. www.prisonplanet.com has stupidity written all over it.
I don't know who wrote that rubbish, but they clearly aren't British.
Other than a few people phoning their friends in London to check they're OK, this has had a negligible impact on the people around me.
This isn't 9/11 round two, a nation plunged into shock at a huge trauma. This is "Oh dear, somebody's bombed London again."
It's a tragedy, but if anybody expects to get any draconian legislation passed in this country as a result, they're in for a sore dissapointment.
As for it being helpful to Blair - What planet are these people on? Most of this country's population was already p***ed off with Blair for dragging us into Bush's warmongering. Blair is more likely to be crucifed than empowered by this event: Most people will say it's his fault it happened

On such short notice? Probably not. However, the G8 summit has had record levels of public awareness thanks to Live 8 this year, so it's more likely to be related to that. Especially since I believe George Bush is attending this year..?

And this could well be the purpose of those responsible. After Spains' Mr. Aznar, Mr. Blair may well be the second european prime minister to lose his job after and for such an attack. Guess this somehow changes the rules of the terrorist game? They are not only spreading fear and terror, they are now actually bombing governments away. Something that hasn't happened in the last 30 years in europe, as far as I remember.
Governments come and go when it comes to a democracy. I doubt a change in government will make a great deal of difference in UK policy as far as terrorism goes...
At the moment I am mostly concerned about the dead and injured in this... I reflect floppy's feelings on the original intent of the thread...
