The bottom line for me is simply that "the operating system, whatever it is, is the horse, not the cart which has the gold in it. What I want is for the gold to be in good hands. If a particular piece of software that I need to use runs only, or runs best, on this-or-that, then I'll equip myself with it ... maybe in a virtual machine, or maybe with real silicon.
Thanks to the hardware support provided by modern microprocessors, virtualization has become a very useful option. But, "chips are cheap," too. So, the word "versus" is simply not in my vocabulary. I quite-routinely use Linux, Windows (various flavors), and Macintosh ... almost every day. And I think nothing about it because each system has its purpose – and is not, itself, that purpose. |
The only way to get there, is to get there so if you see others getting there, we're not there yet... pass it on? 🍭

Linuxers have officially stopped acknowledging the world around them.

I've never seen build scripts invoking apt specifically.. That seems particularly shoddy. Seems like holding the hands of a perceived majority of Debian and buntu users at the expense of all other OS.

Make sense we really don't need computers so they go in so many directions.
As babies we yet learned, right nor wrong aren't the opinions around. |
I'm not sure where to this comment? Think here is a good place to kick proprietary*software* for being the stupidity that it is.
I'm watching netflix or most streaming*software* and wanna click the screen to see information about actors, side notes, what not but can't because it's proprietarily "owned" by amazon as "X-Ray vision?" Like supposedly, a 1 click purchase button? Must be slipping: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1-Click :p I'm gonna take out a patient on breathing, then give all corporate employees a choice: disband or die! And why not, pharmaceutical companies do it! It's obvious looking around the world ta know that people shouldn't be teaching their own "babies!" In the real world people often ask me why\how I'm so cool; I acknowledge my awesome parents,,, who like all are stuck in it. :alongWithMyHat: |
If you wanna argue that we do need computers, because they are helping advanced our human race: then what's your argument for !ocking it up?
Add: keep in minds: any arguments exist in this imperfect world?!. :(:) |
Face it. Most computers are just browsers.
That is where most of the world spend their time. Anyways. Want a slow platform that will only run on newer gear and is leased? Pay out the nose for drm hardware and software and is also geared to be EOL eventually on your desk. Or download a free iso with no strings attatched and runs pretty durn fast . Software is free. Updates are forever. But you have to learn some thing new. All for a browser. |

Now you have me wondering if world leaders like from all over the world. What preferred operating system with the support base they have. They prefer. Mac? Windows? Gnu/Linux? Time for morning tea now. |
I guess I have different outlook than most .
Maybe it because I run AntiX and run into the marginal society from Latin America with a P3 unit with a crt and want to get online on 2nd hand gear. Who Knows. I never liked bullies either and I am big enough to be one. |

I'm sure everyone will get different results, with the same search: computer use statistics

Only 3 kinds of lies: "a lie, a damn lie and statistics?" (But, let's not forget "quotes" or ancient "history..." :p) Searching even just this thread gets some hits with, MINIX? For me it's no longer,,, closed source software for the suckers but hardware! If the air we breathe became unlivable but only a certain type of new filter worked for life, would we let them patent* it?!. https://spectrum.ieee.org/25-microch...hook-the-world :hattip: |
Why would windows be free these days? :p
|
For many corporations, "Linux is not free either." They very-willingly pay another company "maintenance fees" to help them support sometimes many hundreds of servers and desktop and portable/laptop machines. This to help reduce the burden on their employees, who also "are not free."
