Personally, I don't need a linux vs windows thread to convince me to use linux. I know the pros and cons of each and frankly for me, linux outweighs windows by a landslide.

BTW, welcome to LQ.

Not necessarily..

Techtalk podcast on microsoft's plans to be a mobile first cloud first company.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FV99xTbmfQA

Just my opinion, but MS already try the mobile market and their devices didn't make any big impacts on the mobile market share. MS is trying to win the battle but Google and Apple already won the war.

Windows 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, ME, 98 are crap.

Windows XP, 95, 2000 are ok, but they really ruined XP by miles.

Debian, more than just a "fanboy!!!" ;)

7 and even Vista really are not terrible IF you have the hardware to run them
W2k is quite underrated

Windows 8 is complete and udder garbage. Worst UI screwup

Define "not terrible?" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/quora/...88381481237582

7 and vista is still, bloated and not a huge improvement from XP.
W2k is a rather stable Windows operating system, my takeaway shop has a computer that runs 2000, and it never crash...
I agree with you, Windows 8's UI is more for tablet and really Microsoft really sucked on this one. There is also graphic driver and bugs problems as well as updates being crap.

Hey, this is an okay thread, for all of its over-two-thousand entries ... because, "shiny things are fun!" :)

The Windows Store is a Cesspool of Scams — Why Doesn’t Microsoft Care?

I remembered when microsoft said the google store was infected with malware.

Well, ain't that the pot calling the kettle black

Read the article. Wow! wouldn't have guessed that it could be that bad. Glad I'm running linux.

Good lesson to learn (especially if running Windows!)
My mother got hit by Cryptowall which is particularly nasty ransomware
Lost everything. That is exactly why you need to back things up

I've said before, w2k was the best. XP they removed the support to be able to control swap %, it had IE so tangled into it that running as a non admin malware could still easily install. I had problems with USB, resume, etc. Things that worked in w2k for months would just stop working at random in xp
I guess the only good thing about XP was it drove me to Linux.

Perhaps the people at microsoft will one day care and see the danger of these types of apps and stop approving almost everything for the sake of quantity.

The google store had a similar dilemma, more so at the beginning. Today, they have limited the amount of malware in the store but a few get by.

Either way, before I install an app, I look at the ratings and reviews of the apps.

Second, I never install counterfeit apps.
