I do not like the frequent use of sudo myself and I use aliases for my frequently used commands, though it is not recommended.

Yes, it is more robust, otherwise it would not be the choice of over 90% of servers.

And what about Windows? You want to update? Do not forget to reboot. You want Windows? Do not forget to buy the newest and latest hardware that will only last you for a number of years. And do not forget to buy extra disk space because Windows is Windows. And if it's games you are after, you do need lots of cash for the previously mentioned latest hardware that includes CPU, GPU, RAM and disk space. And do not forget to add some RGB lights to please your eyes and ego.

I will not get into more details, but search about the kernel differences to find out why Windows needs so much rebooting.

Indeed. I have even developed software at companies where they wanted developers to work on Windows, yet plenty of developers would at least install Cygwin to make their day to day operations easier. AND, with various companies, the company's servers were running Linux.

Well, I won't narc you out.

I have to run Android and pretend to be too stupid to learn windows because I 💕ve in the United States but I am so grateful to know the truth.

I am aware of the fact that I am an exception to the rule. I wasn't worth it.

But thank you anyway. <3

Interesting article:

I'm no expert here, but it looks like someone's robot is feeding on code. Well, at least it's not feeding on people. :D

Good comparison

Ah, the spirit of Open Source.

LOL.

From that site:

Linux can detect bugs and fix them easier because of its stellar security, while Windows’ large userbase can be easily attacked by hackers.
Linux had a security bug in X11 for over 20 years.

Windows runs slowly, especially with older hardware, while Linux runs significantly faster.
The author never used KDE, I presume.

Quote:

Linux peripherals, including printers, CD-ROMs, and hard drives are considered files.
That's not an advantage per se and also incomplete. Unlike Plan 9, Linux does not treat everything as a file.

There can be two files in the same directory with the same name in Linux.
This is wrong. Later in the text, the author specifies it:

Quote:

Conversely, in Linux, there can be two files in the same directory with the same name, so long as they use different cases.
Just enable case sensitivity in NTFS. Done.

In Microsoft Windows, program and system files are almost always stored in the C: drive
This is also wrong. Why do you recommend a website that's full of lies?

Rolling eyes even. I can see you make friends easily. I still think it is a good article. Even though older gear and window mangers were not covered. Only so much can be put in a blog as we all know before folks lose interest.

Bye.

Most - if not all - of my friends actually thank me for pointing my finger at lies they believed in. Seems like you don't. Sorry.

Because it fits your narrative?

Ah, Linuxers. Please don't stop being like this.

Though I don't care for his tone, I have to agree with YesItsMe: that's really not a good article. Far too much is badly worded, simply wrong, or shows a misunderstanding of the topics.

The content quality on LinuxJournal is not what it once was.

That's informed opinion.

I think that "the operating system is not the point." You run whatever you need to run, to run the programs you want to use. Microsoft has some very good(!) software, and it runs only on Windows. If you need that, buy it and be happy: they came by their millions honestly. Choose your cart, then buy the horse that pulls it.

That is indeed correct. One of the most interesting books by Microsoft that I have read – part of a series – was written by the team lead of the group which rewrote "Word for Mac" so that it used the same code base as "Word for Windows." This subsequently became the basis for converting (almost ...) all of "Microsoft Office." There is now "only one cross-platform system." Microsoft has always been a big supporter of Apple and vice-versa, despite their "press rivalry."

But there are other Microsoft products which rely on foundation technologies that are only available in Windows. Windows is "the basement of the software 'stack.'" And it works. It took them a long time to finally realize how to package and deploy Windows, but they finally did. And, like Linux and *nix, it is now a robust and reliable system that scales well.

Most of Apple's software, including (but not limited to) Safari, has been discontinued for Windows though, so Microsoft considers itself less of a rival than Apple does these days.
