Funny, Sundialsvcs......I just happened to switch on the radio today as I was driving (something I very rarely do- -radio is something else I long-ago abandoned) and the "news" was on...and right in that brief ten seconds I had the radio on, before switching it off again, they were saying how a quite significant (Can't remember the exact number- somewhere around 20-25% I believe) of Americans now believe that internet companies are too invasive/abusing their privacy/etc. If it's that high already.....I think that well-illustrates what you said above, about Google. The Google ship is among the icebergs right now, and charging full-speed ahead.......like the Titanic!

[Of course, we all know that those surveys are totally irrelevant- as they usually poll about 1300 people, and consider that to be a good representative sampling of 300,000,000 people..... But just the fact that such a topic is on the mainstream "radar', is quite significant.]

I'm sitting here wondering what they are gonna eff-up next- Craigslist, maybe?

I stopped using windows way back. I could care less about it.

At the risk of drawing the ire of the moderators, the question is analogous with asking, "Which is worse? Defecating on the kitchen floor or the sitting room floor."

If Microsoft is installed for the purpose of playing games (I do not see any other reasons for having it.), then version 7 or 8 won't make a difference. If you like MS, then up-grade. Asking for encouragement is pointless.

Sumguy and sundialsvcs make interesting observations about Google. It is interesting that they built their company upon the idea that they could collect/steal information without anyone finding out. An example is their e-mail service and the ruckus that arose when it became known Google stored every e-mail sent and received by people using their service. It is impossible that they believed no one would care when they found out. Obviously, they believed no one would discover the truth. It is ironic that a company whose sole reason to exist is to collect information, does not realise that nothing can be kept secret indefinitely.

if Google didnt collect data that was useful to some business model then such services/products would not be free. User beware, "free" things usually come with a hitch, nothing is "free" in life!

I remember thinking when I got my first 'puter in 1999: "Everything on the web is "free"- Companies can't make money giving away services nor just on advertising...something bad is going to come of this". Now we get Orwellian surveillance AND copious amounts of advetising. I'd so rather just pay for what I use, if I could be guaranteed privacy and no advertising.

well, 32bit only for this "free" product. unless its your own product that you support in your own lab, it still costs you $$ to get the very limited support for this "free" product. getting to LQ or any other site is not "free".

even the "free" food samples at your fav club store is not free, the price of the product includes the cost of the free food + paying the worker to stand around saying "try our free sample of our crud, its really good", etc.

the only thing free in life i guess is air and sun light.

- New Tab page includes quick access to common tasks and your favorite sites -> Also Firefox and Chrome has this feature
- Combined search and Address bar - You can search directly in the address bar even in FF
- Visual search suggestions shown as you type - So FF and Chrome/chromium bnut they're not mentioned
and so on...

i dont use Slackware. i do see 64bit is available, so i guess the site needs updating:
