Regarding brain hemispheres and right and left eye work division, while it is true that SOME information goes from each eye to each hemisphere it is absolutely not to be construed that all goes to both or that it is anywhere near identical. There is a difference and such observed phenomena as I posted above is but one example that has yet to be entirely understood but is important in reaching understanding about consciousness and perception.

Both the LGN in the right hemisphere and the LGN in the left hemisphere receive input from each eye. However, each LGN only receives information from one half of the visual field. This occurs due to axons of the ganglion cells from the inner halves of the retina (the nasal sides) decussating (crossing to the other side of the brain) through the optic chiasma (khiasma means "cross-shaped"). The axons of the ganglion cells from the outer half of the retina (the temporal sides) remain on the same side of the brain. Therefore, the right hemisphere receives visual information from the left visual field, and the left hemisphere receives visual information from the right visual field. Within one LGN, the visual information is divided among the various layers as follows:[6]

the eye on the same side (the ipsilateral eye) sends information to layers 2, 3 and 5
the eye on the opposite side (the contralateral eye) sends information to layers 1, 4 and 6.

No need to rant. There is indeed so-called "popular science" amd then "real science" and the only way popular gets closer to real is just like this - discussion.

@enorbet: there is nothing in what you posted that contradicts or refutes what I posted. So I guess we're in agreement, sort of. Every object you see on your left first goes to the right hemisphere ( well really to the right occipital via the thalamus as pointed out. ) and vice versa.

But every object seen centrally has half of its image sent to each hemisphere, which is enough information for each hemisphere to identify it independently.....and if that wasn't enough the two hemispheres immediately compare notes and act as one via the corpus callosum.

So in a normally functioning brain there is no way to show one hemisphere a clock without the other seeing it, or an orange crayon, without the other seeing it as well.....and anything done with an Abby Normal brain, as Young Frankenstein would so label it, is subject to speculation for what it means to the rest of us.

Your hardware are the internal and external organs, the electrical impulses in your brain is the software, and the chemicals known as hormones are your emotions. And we are trying to run free (as in freedom) software on this "human computer system" to be happy.

@mostlyharmless - I am obviously aware that no matter which eye I cover I can still read this page and frankly I don't recall if the Clock/Orange test subject had any impairment or not. There is however still distinct differences between hemispheres and such phenomena interest me on the whole because of the questions they beg about how we can feel so integrated and certain when we house so many conflicts, contradictions, misconceptions, and rationalizations. The video I linked is far more interesting, deep and real regarding the fluid nature of "self".

There is an evolutionary advantage in being able to fool or lie to oneself such as retaining hope in the face of horrible odds. If we could somehow load our consciousness into a computer it would surely crash yet somehow we make it all work, whether aware of "the game" or not.
