Replacing YDL with Fedora Core 7 on PS3

I would like to replace my existing YDL 5.0 installation on PS3 with Fedora Core 7. I have the ISO DVD ready but would like to know the easiest way of doing this. Any tips on the footprint of FC7 vs YDL5 - as PS3 is limited on memory - would help.

I would prefer a way in which I do not need to format and repartition the PS3 hard drive - after all I am only replacing the operating system on the already created partition.
