Installation hangs at "Resolving Package dependencies..."

Hi,
I am very new to the LINUX. When i start the installation of the FC6. The installation process hangs at a place where it says "Resolving package dependencies ....".

All the steps before this were selected properly. The media (CD) which i am using for the installation is also good, because i have two sets of FC6 CD's and in both the cases, it hangs exactly at the same place, hence i cant blame the CD's are corrupt.
Is the FC6 not supported on my H/W. Pls let me know in case you guys have any clues.

H/W details:
Intel Pentium 4, 2.6 GHZ
512 MB DDR RAM
80 GB Seagate H/D (as master) **FC6 is being installed on this H/D
160 GB Seagate H/D (as slave)
Intel 845 GVSR Chipset
LG 700 E Monitor

This step can run for a considerable amount of time (15 minutes or more). How long did you wait?

Did you customize the package list or add a repository? If so, try leaving things as default as possible. Once the system is installed, you can make whatever changes are needed.

FC7 hang during installation from dvd

After installing FC7 successfully on a dell lattitude laptop,
I attempted to use the same DVD to install FC7 on an Acer Travelmate 805LMi laptop.
The laptop has an existing FC6 installation, but I tried to
install FC7 fresh on an empty filesystem.

The problem seems related to what is described in this thread.

I tried the installation several times. Each time, the laptop
hangs at some stage.

First attempt: laptop boots. Graphical installer starts.
After the standard questions, I choose custom partitioning and
select to install on an empty filesystem without repartitioning
or formatting. I select "software development" and "web server"
as additional software packages. The system hangs on "checking
dependencies". It is not possible to switch consoles.

Second attempt (after powering down). System hangs before X-server
is even started.

Third attempt using non-graphical install. System hangs at the
point where I enter the mount point /boot for an existing
partition.

The only references I can find to this issue are on machines with memory problems. If you've overclocked your machine or memory, restore the default conservative values. Download and boot memtest86 and let it run overnight to check for memory errors.

Ok, I will do that, but for the record: I have used this machine
for many years now, without any problem, while running many memory
intensive programs (incl. vmware). I doubt this is the problem.

I performed a limited 4 hour memory test. No problems were
found. Perhaps I should mention that my laptop has a non-standard
memory size: 1280 Mbytes.

I will experiment with some kernel options later.

My problem is related to acpi.

After adding the kernel options "acpi=off noapic"
the installation dvd boots fine and I could install
FC7.

After booting the installed system I have exactly the
same problem: random crashes. Once in a while I can
see a stack trace which shows the system is in some
acpi call. At other times it just hangs.

The system boots fine with acpi=off but then it is
lacking important functionality such as being able to
power down.

Upgrading to vmlinuz-2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 does not help.
