I'm having an issue with the FC2 disc 1 iso.
My intial boot failed with a kernal panic so I ended up booting the rescue CD and choosing install. When prompted to test the media (CD's) I did so. All passed except disc 1. I used K3B to burn my initial discs using the iso's from the bittorrent listed on the fedora site.
So, I burned a new one, same result.
Then I burned onto a RW disc, same.
Then I used a windows machine with different drive and software onto a CDR, same.
Tried a RW disc, same.
Downloaded new iso for disc 1 from RH (instead of torrent). Burned with K3B, same.
I don't think my procedure is flawed as all the discs test good (except 1) and the rescue disc works fine.
Is there a known problem with disc 1 perhaps? Anyone have any suggestions?
I have a copy of disc 1 that seems to run fine so I doubt there's any problem with that.
You probably had a corrupted download for that iso file. Did you check the MD5 sum for the iso file?
If you don't have access so an md5sum program and you do have the CD-RW, you can keep trying to download and burn to the RW and do the media test until it passes. This way would take a bit longer, but would suffice.
The MD5SUM is OK on all disc's. I should have mentioned that! Since I've tried different machines/cd/os combo's to burn the disc I figure that process is OK. Not to mention the fact that the other 4 discs work fine. Only disc one always fails! I'm using 700MB CD-R's and RW's from different manufactures as well. I've also tried booting/testing it from multiple machines with different hardward spec's as well. It's always the same error sequence, a CRC failure just before the kernel panic.
I'll try downloading it a third time from a third source.
That's really weird, but you have the right idea by retrying over and over and on different machines.
The only thing I can suggest is to burn the iso to cd at a really slow speed to prevent any errors from going to fast. If you have access to a linux system with cdrecord, you can specify it pretty easily. Just read the man page for it, or go to http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...isks-cdrw.html and go to the bottom to the title "4.3.3.2. Using cdrecord".
Other than that I really wouldn't know what the problem is and would suggest to keep trying until you are too sick of it! Hope all of this helped.
I had the same problem with the kernel error.
The amount of data on that first cd is apparently fairly critical they should put a warning to burn at 8x or so to keep from risking a failure.
I don't think it was a speed issue either. That being said, I suspect somethig particular to the disc 1 iso. I used 700MB discs in all tests of various brands in various drives using various software and the *only* thing that worked was cdrecord. I'd love to know why this is but am satisfied with the results. Moving from RH9 to FC2 was a nice upgrade.
