Where oh where has my modem gone?
I've been away from linux for awhile and I just installed Fedora core 5 and am now at a loss as to where my modem is. When I try to setup my internet connection with kppp I try querying the modem and get the message that the modem can't be opened. Where is the modem if it's not /dev/modem, /dev/ttyS0, or any of the other common choices?

it's located. It should be somewhere in /dev but I can't find it. All the options in kppp tell me the modem can't be opened.

Yes it is true the if you had a winmodem the link I provided is very helpful. But it would have saved time if you would have provided the missing details [ external hardware modem (a Diamond SupraExpress to be specific ) ] in your first post, no biggie.
Which serial port is this external modem attached to???
Is this modem attached to a usb port???
