Vmware


hello ive just installed FC3. im running it from vmware workstation so i had to install vmware tools to get the screen bigger to 1024*768. after i installed the tools and set the resolution to 1024 i couldnt start X afterwards error message

ive tried to get into xf86config but the command never works any help appreciated

it says your mouse device isn't there... have you mapped a mouse through to this VM? normally a ps2 mouse would be /dev/psaux, no idea about a usb one, presumably just /dev/mouse.

If you can not get to the prompt or bash because you default to runlevel 5 or 4 (GUI), in LILO type linux 3. For grub, hit e (i think you need to hit it twice) and add 3 to the end of the kernel line. Then hit enter and hit b to boot. It will go directly to the bash prompt or in runlevel 3. I think Fedora uses Xorg, so the file will be /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Like what acid_kewpie said, you have to include a mouse for the virtual machine before using it in the virtual machine.

I think usb mouse is /dev/usb/mouse. Some distributions sets /dev/mouse as a symbolic link that points to another mouse device.
