I’m having dialin failure with a new Fedora 13 installation and Zoom usb modem.
When I call the machine I get the normal Linux prompt with the username prompt. I type in the user name and the system drops carrier before getting to the password prompt.
The system logs and config files are:

The configuration and test above is after a fresh boot to ensure the init configuration changes are actively in effect. With this new upstart routine I’m not sure how to ensure the changes has taken effect without rebooting. With the former inittab a “init q” would active the new changes.
Can someone tell me how to activate (or know for certain) the new changes are in effect with this new method?
As far as the login problems, I felt it might have had something to do with a firewall or selinux block. I disabled both and got the same results.
Thanks in advance for any input on this matter.
