Unhappy Unable to retrieve software information


i use FC6-pre n i am kind of noob in Linux
i want to connect to internet but my modem drivers come with tar...
Following the installation instruction i need gcc which was not installed during initial installation.
When i try to intall gcc rpm from FC6-Pre DVD i get a "Unable to retrieve software information" error....
I dont have an internet connection....what sould i do?
Thnx in advance....

You can make a repo for your install dvd (search LQ OR google for it)
disable all other repos, install gcc and then install modem drivers
